The Women Who Refused to Accept “This Is Just Normal”

As anyone who works in women’s healthcare will tell you, women typically don’t get enough education on how their own bodies work. Many times patients will delay seeking care for months or years since they don’t know what they are experiencing is common but not normal.  This can leave providers feeling overwhelmed as patients will generally walk in the door with many overlapping symptoms and comorbidities.

And as anyone who is a woman who needs healthcare knows well, or loves someone who does, the experience on the patient’s end can be incredibly frustrating!  You might see multiple providers, be misdiagnosed, or not even know where to go to receive care.  And in marginalized communities, access to that care is often limited.

Writing a New Script

That is where InspireHer: A Global Women’s Health Initiative is changing the story. Physical therapists working in the space of women’s healthcare saw the inequities and frustration faced by both providers and patients alike.  And several stepped up to found InspireHer to be the change they wished to see in the world.  We want you to get to know our amazing Board of Directors so you can be inspired too!

Dr. Susan Clinton – President | Founding Member

“No one should ever have to say, ‘I didn’t know physical therapy could help with this.’ Every woman deserves care that sees her, hears her, and heals her.” – Dr. Susan Clinton

Susan Clinton, President and founding member of InspireHer: A Global Women’s Health Initiative, has spent more than four decades transforming the way we understand and deliver care.

Her journey began in the ICU during the AIDS epidemic — where she saw what happens when people are left without answers or advocacy. That moment became her lifelong mission: to ensure no woman, anywhere, feels unseen or unsupported in her healing.

As a mentor, educator, and visionary leader, Susan champions a future where healthcare is a human right and pelvic health is recognized as the foundation of whole-person wellness.

Rebecca Stephenson – Treasurer | Founding Member

“When women receive the care they deserve, communities thrive. This is more than healthcare — it’s advocacy in motion.” – Rebecca Stephenson

A lifelong educator and co-author on women’s health, Rebecca sees knowledge as the greatest form of empowerment. She believes that when we equip providers with the tools and cultural awareness to serve every woman, we don’t just improve outcomes — we transform generations.

Her work has taken her across the globe — teaching, mentoring, and advocating for pelvic health as a cornerstone of human dignity.  Her leadership continues to shape our global vision, ensuring that women everywhere are seen, heard, and healed.

Dr. Tracy Spitznagle – International Program Director | Founding Board Member

“Every woman deserves access to care — no matter her country, culture, or circumstance.” – Dr. Tracy Spitznagle

For Dr. Tracy Spitznagle, women’s health has always been global.  Her projects have stretched from U.S. hospitals to clinics abroad, where she’s helped ensure that access to pelvic and women’s health physical therapy is no longer a privilege, but a right.

A lifelong educator, clinician, and advocate, Tracy has dedicated her career to reaching the women too often left behind — those in underserved and underrepresented communities across the world.    Her leadership embodies the spirit of InspireHer — selfless, compassionate, and relentlessly focused on creating a world where every woman can heal, no matter where she lives.

Dr. Bridget Ochuko – Domestic Program Director | Founder of The Better Birth Project

“Healing begins when we truly understand our bodies — not as something to fix, but as something to listen to.” – Dr. Bridget Ochuko

For Dr. Bridget Ochuko, knowledge is power — and representation is the bridge to access.

The Better Birth Project, one of InspireHer’s cornerstone initiatives, began as Bridget’s graduate thesis at Emory University. What started as research on how pelvic health physical therapy could transform birth outcomes for marginalized women became a movement to bring education, equity, and advocacy to every birthing space.

A physical therapist and trained doula, Bridget believes that when women understand their bodies — physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually — they reclaim control of their healing. Her work ensures that women of color are not only cared for but seen and heard within a system that has too often ignored their voices.

“I never planned to help lead a movement — but the universe has a way of putting you exactly where you’re meant to be.” – Stephanie Eisel

Even as a physical therapist assistant, Stephanie didn’t realize just how much pelvic and women’s health physical therapists could do — how profoundly they could change lives. That realization opened her eyes to a part of healthcare that too often goes unseen.

What began as frustration became a calling. Every experience — personal, professional, and spiritual — led her here: to InspireHer.

Now, Stephanie channels that lived experience into action, helping connect and empower the people doing this vital work. Her role isn’t about standing in the spotlight — it’s about helping others shine their light more brightly.

Hope for Women Who Need It

Through the work of these incredible women, InspireHer is creating pathways for students, birth workers, and providers to learn, connect, and uplift the next generation of women’s health professionals.  Our goals are to uplift representation, help expand access to care, and drive sustainable community change both domestically and internationally.
